UVF2S Food Systems

Food Systems Work at UVF2S

Umpqua Valley Farm to School (UVF2S) is actively building a robust food systems network across the Southwestern Oregon region, aiming to increase distribution of locally grown and produced foods throughout Douglas, Jackson, Josephine, Coos, and Curry counties. Our goal is to strengthen connections among local farms, fisheries, ranchers, processors, restaurants, schools, institutions, and consumers, promoting regional economic resilience and food security.

In response to a comprehensive food hub assessment completed in 2020, UVF2S has developed the Southern Oregon Food Alliance (SOFA) in partnership with Thrive Umpqua. This collaborative initiative addresses the identified needs for stronger infrastructure and enhanced connections between coastal fisheries and inland markets, and between regional farms, ranchers, and food producers with local buyers.

SOFA focuses on creating an inclusive, equitable food system that provides critical support to agricultural, food, and beverage businesses across Southwestern Oregon. By improving local food distribution networks, we aim to increase access to fresh, healthy, regionally produced foods while supporting the local economy and fostering sustainable agricultural practices.

🌾 UVF2S and SOFA are committed to nurturing a thriving, interconnected regional food system. 🌎✨
